I was gonig to bin them tbh but dd1 and 2 are now possessed with a missionary-like zeal to send them to an orphanage somewhere.

Is this actually possible?

Could you put some of the smaller ones in a shoebox for the appeal at xmas?

DD was into this too Enid. I found out that Scope has charity bags that they distribute every now and then with a picture of a girl in a wheelchair on the front. I showed them to dd (who had been pretty reluctant to part with some of her things) and she wanted this girl to have her toys so gladly put them in the bags. It might be worth asking your local Scope shop if they have any bags for you to fill.

Not quite an orphanage, but Refugee Action or lots of other refugee organisations (if you have any near you) are always really grateful for toys and clothes, as most people arrive with absolutely nothing.
