As some of you may remember I've been on a weight loss effort this year. Still have another 2 stone to go (have lapsed a bit lately!). After doing the Great Manchester Run (10k) in May I'm going to do the Great North Run 4 weeks today. I'm raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and would appreciate any donations or just messages to keep the thread bumped if you don't want to donate. My web page is here . No one on here knows me in RL as far as I know but suffice to say I am on the large side still and have never been a natural runner so this really is a major challenge for me and I'm determined to run/jog all the way. Thanks all.

gosh 3 stone in 8 months well done I am green with .

I'd love to sponsor you but am overseas at the moment. Sending loads of moral support though.

Thanks dejags. I have to say the summer has been a challenge weight loss wise as our social life is a lot more active in the summer (ie more alcohol leading to less self control!)plus I've had a couple of quite bad injuries so I haven't been able to run so much/at all. Feel extremely motivated now I've started getting sponsorship.

good work northender for losing that weight! an good luck with the run. Be thinking of you!

Thanks silver and thanks to those who've donated. Less than 4 weeks to go now. 4 weeks today I might be struggling to walk!

I'm a runner (started late in life). I admire you like crazy. Ive done 10ks and x-country races, but the half marathon has always eluded me. What are your injuries if you don't mind me asking?? I will try and sponsor you tomorrow on my work computer (more secure for using credit cards etc).

Well done you... massive pats on back from me.

themoon66 · 05/09/2006 09:52

There you go... another donation.

There you go.

Well done - I'd have trouble running for a bus!!

Thanks guys. moon I've had 2 problems, about 6 weeks before I did the 10k I had quite a bad achilles problem on the left which is fine now but about a month ago I strained my right calf enough to make walking uncomfortable and running impossible. Tested it out on Sunday though and it seems OK now. Who knows what it'll be like after 13 miles though?!

Well take it steady and if you get any pain at all whilst training, stop and walk immediately. I had a terrible achilles problem last May Bank Holiday. Its only this last month I've started running again, but only building up one mile a week. Am back up to five miles now and hoping to try a 10k next week (but not pushing too hard).

3 weeks to go now. Am wondering quite why I entered this now!
