...he fled the scene in the car with the fuel tank scraping along the ground because he has no insurance!!!! I am livid - a friend who witnessed the crash says he overtook her at 100mph Even worse we only had 3rd party fire and theft insurance because the car was a stop gap. DH has just phoned me and he now cant come home and has to stay with his workmate because he cant get back from work and get back in there in the morning (15 miles from here and no buses) I am really upset and dont want to be on my own.

why was he driving your car? did you know he had it?

cupcakes · 02/09/2006 16:59

were there any other vehicles involved?

schneebly · 02/09/2006 17:00

He works with DH and just left work to pick up his girlfriend then was going back to work - DH did not know that his insurance had expired.

No other vehicles involved - it is a very quiet road thankfully- he hit the bank and went out of control. The friend who witenessed it is a traffic warden (no joke!!)

she picked up the debris from the road and says she will not tell the police but wants to talk to my brother. In a way I think he needs to get into trouble for this because it is a ridiculously stupid and dangerous thing to do and I am so with him.

schneebly · 02/09/2006 17:05

Problem is DH could get into trouble for letting him drive the car without checking he was insured.

There isn't really a word for when someone does something that stupid and wreckless is there, you just want to kill them. Has he got any money to buy you a new car? He bloody well should.

schneebly · 02/09/2006 17:08

DH says he has given him £450 which is more than we paid for the car. The real issue is my brother's behaviour - he has been very unpredictable since my mum died and has been in trouble for fighting and yelling abuse when drunk..he needs help. I am still too though.

I cant believe that he would be so disrespectful to drive your car like an idiot without insurance.

With or without the crash- if he had been pulled by th police at all, the car would be history now unless YOU & HUBBY forked out a couple of hundred quid to get it out of the compound. how disrespctful, that added to the fact that its only sheer luck that he never crashed into another car- possibly killing not only himself- but other people.

schneebly · 02/09/2006 17:11

exactly emma - it is not only his own life he was endangering.

OH Schneebly honey, this isn't what you need right now - I'm 6 hours away otherwise you could come and stay with me! Think he needs a kick up the arse!

littleducks · 02/09/2006 17:13

hit a bank....it may be on cctv.....it might all still come back to you.....

chubbleigh · 02/09/2006 17:15

Good thing that he has given you some money but what about all the hassle of finding another car and scraping the old one, sorting out tax etc. etc. Hope you manage to get hold of him whilst you are still angry so you can tell him exactly how you feel on all counts.

schneebly · 02/09/2006 17:17

It was on a country road littleducks so no cctv - the 'bank' was the grass verge (sorry for my poor english). I am still worried it will come back to haunt us though.

MamaG - thank you. I appreciate it. I just hope this has taught him a serious lesson. What a prize f*&£@ing idiot!

chubbleigh - we have only had this car for about 3 weeks so just gone through all that hassle. DH is going to get a 4.5 hour bus to Glasgow on Wednesday and get one at the motor auction.

bloody hell schneebly- sounds like a right nightmare. I take it you are out in the sticks?

schneebly · 02/09/2006 17:24

Very much emma - the end of the earth really.

Just in case you don't know you can get the money for your road tax back....

AllieBongo · 02/09/2006 18:37

poor you he will be in big trouble and will probably get a ban tbh. At least 6points for being uninsured (IN10) and probably 3 each for leaving the scene of a accident, and failing to report an accident. (AC10 and summat else i think) totalling 12. i agree, he's a twunt and i would batter him. Don't be lonely, have a glass of wine and put your feet up x
