Do supermarkets accommodate the parent with no transport?

Hi
Does anyone have to pick up groceries and does not have their own transport?
I am a father of 2 and fortunately have never realised their may be a problem. However, when my wife said she used to struggle to push the buggy round whilst trying to fill a shopping basket I started to observe this and have seen many parents with the same dilemma. I am currently studying with the OU completing a design and innovation module and was thinking of exploring this area to see if an improvement, no matter how small could be implemented.
Does anyone else find this a struggle?
What are your thoughts for an improvement other than the buggy park which many supermarkets will not introduce and hanging bags off the handles?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It's called 'online shopping'. Why spend time doing all of this when you can get someone else to do it for you. They even bring it into your kitchen for you. Splendid!

mine are older now but online shopping for the big shops and one of those baskets that you can pull along behind you when just poping in for a top up shop.

I had a buggy that could easily be pushed one handed though.

Sling an under one
Avoid at all costs with a 1-2 year old
Make a 2+ year old walk

Online for everything. The odd milk/ bread you can just hold or put on pram hood as just 1-2 pieces.

I haven't done an actual supermarket shop in about 5 years

I've often wished for a basket that attachs to a pushchair somehow. It's all very well going on about online shopping etc but it doesn't actually solve what should be a fairly simple problem.

It would have to be an attachment for the buggy rather than something the supermarket provides. So you walk to the shop with the buggy and struggle to walk home with the shopping. A service provided by the supermarket wouldn't solve that.

You can buy little hooks that attach to the buggy to hang bags off, but I would think something more like a motor bike sidecar would work better. Not attractive by any means, but useful for the weekly shop trek by foot.

I like the sidecar idea. Or a buggy board with a tall basket.

Our Tesco's now does a scan and shop, I scan items and put straight into basket under the buggy. It's great, no basket balancing involved.
Now I need the other supermarkets I shop in to start doing this too

I hang bags off the handles. It works fine.

Canvas baskets, like the ones you get in shops like mothercare are much easier to carry with one hand or to hook over the handles of the buggy.

The microlite twofold pram comes with the option of attaching a huge trolley size bag on the back already.

Tall basket on buggy board would be good too, line.

Not everyone wants to shop online. I like to pick and choose what fresh foods I buy and it can be quite educational for a toddler to pick and see all the fruit and veg!

I think a fabric or mesh basket that could be hung from a pushchair would be fab :)

Baskets with two handles go over the buggy handles fine. One handled baskets are a problem but in those shops I use the buggy basket or shopping bags instead.

The only problem is pressure to use the self-checkouts which can't cope with you packing items in a buggy.

I used to do small shops and then catch the bus home. I can't remember it being a big issue in the store so much but the problem with putting bags on the buggy is that if your child hops out (or if the shopping is very heavy and the baby light) the buggy falls over backward so something that helped with balance would probably be handy.

That's why the side car idea or the buggy board with tall basket would work. More space and no falling over.

Some Waitrose branches have wheeled shopping bags that attach to a bicycle like a tagalong bike, and can be borrowed to take your shopping home. Something like that, with a universal clip to attach to the side of a buggy handle, would have been very useful.

If you can't shop online, then walk or bus to market, do the shop and taxi home. People have been doing that for many decades, too.

God if someone would come up with a sensible basket that works with a buggy and didn't then stick it behind trolleys or in corners of stores (where the fucking elderly congregate and shuffle about really slowly) so you could actually pick one up, turn round and move off at an adequate space or even hey novel idea pick up as you walk past, I'd say he deserved a medal.

Do you fancy an obe op? I do online shop. But still sometimes need stuff and it's HIDEOUS.

I used to find this a huge problem.

Some supermarkets have demi-trollies that attach to wheelchairs. Something similar for buggies would be good.

One Lidl had bigger hand baskets on wheels which you can pull along. But that was the only supermarket. Trying to get a big shop in with no transport and a baby in a buggy was and is HARD! Please design something great!
Money for taxi home was not an option, and anyway once the shopping was done I could fit it into the basket under/share the bags out. It was during the shop that was hard!
