Rules of a card game called Sevens

Does anyone know the rules for a card game that I think is called Sevens, I know that if you play a certain card play reverses, if you play some other card the person who plays after has to pick up 2 cards, and so on. The object is to get rid of all your cards. It's not much to go on, any help would be appreciated. I am so tired of 'Go Fish' and thought this would be a game we would all enjoy.

Is it like blackjack?

No, a group of you can play, and I think there are trumps and whatever suit is trumps you can play your cards in that suit unless you have a card that's the same....so if spades were trumps and you played the 2, I could change the trump to hearts by playing the 2 of hearts.

Yeah, BlackJack but not as in the version played in casinos.

Also known as Crazy 8's.

All a variation of the same game - as is the game UNO but that has special pre-printed cards.

This might help

We used to play a game called sevens but I don't remember anything about trumps. It was quite a simple game because sis and me were only young when we played it with our
nan. The object was still to be the first to get rid of all your cards though. You had to deal out seven cards per player and everyone held their cards in a fan so as to see them all easily. Whoever had the seven of diamonds put that down to start the game. Players would take turns being able to lay down a card if they could, otherwise they had to pick one up from the remainder of the deck. This could often mean everyone picking up loads of cards until the seven of diamonds surfaced! You could only lay down a card in sequence if the card before it was already there. So, after the seven of diamonds was laid down the next cards required were the six of diamonds or the eight of diamonds and you would end up with rows of cards stretched out. You couldn't start a new suit until the seven for that suit was laid down. If you had a king or ace you had to hope that that suit would be completed before the others or you would be stuck!

Does any of that make any sense at all?

Yep, crazy 8's is the one that has you changing direction/picking up cards etc... 7's is exactly how pixel says - both favourites in our family!

Crazy 8's is pretty much what zaphod describes in the op though.
