Help! We're going to a family party on Saturday for DH's cousin's 21st birthday. We don't know her, only met her about 3 times so consequently we've no idea what she likes.

We're also really overdrawn, so ideally we need a present that is 50p but looks like a £100 gift!!

Any ideas?????

A bit of cheap silver jewelry?

littlerach · 16/08/2006 19:43

alcohol

An old bit of silver jewellery that you don't like anymore done up nice in a box, "bought in an antique shop"!
Otherwise a homebrew kit always goes down well with teenagers, probably would at 21 too.

Alcohol... thats what id want when I turn 21!

What about a great book, with a nice inscription?

Look in a cheapo book shop (like Works) where stuff goes v. cheap. Classic feminist book or a nice looking class novel? Margaret Atwood? Poems?

You can get quite nice jewellery reasonably cheaply in accessorise & clothing shops. If you don't really know her then I guess the gift is more of a token than anything else.

Hmm, a book is a good idea. Alcohol if I get really stuck although as she lives in the States and is going back v.soon a home brewing kit is probably not ideal.

Any more ideas?

[I won't show my ignorance by asking who is Margaret Atwood, I think I'll quietly go and Google her name.....]
