Are you sure you can't undo?

rosaparks · 11/08/2006 08:27

Lots of sympathy from me

Btw we have a fairly unstable network at work, so I discovered an option on Word that does me an automatic back-up every 10 mins or so ... might be worth a try. (Stable doors and all that.)

PS I find Maths fascinating and always have; I even contemplated doing a conversion course to teach it .. until I discovered quite how much c.50% of children loathe Maths lessons and the subject, and save up their worst behaviour of the week for those lessons!

I don't think so. Partner says not and he's usually good at that sort of thing. I thought I was saving the new version when it asked if I wanted to Replace. But I somehow wasn't (really don't understand how as I had been saving as I went along anyway). So basically I saved the old version, thus replacing the new version (ie without this mornings work) on both the hardrive and my saving stick. If I had noticed and not closed the document things might have been rectifiable, apparently, but as I did close it and only realised my error when I opened it again to check something I am screwed afaics. sigh. V galling as i having been getting up @4.30am to work for a couple of hours before the kids get up and was feeling v virtuous and full of the joys of spring before undoing it all with a few clicks of the finger. doh doh doh doh

In that case, lots of sympathy, how very annoying.

WideWebWitch · 11/08/2006 08:36

There's def not a saved version of it anywhere?

ScummyMummy · 11/08/2006 08:39

Thanks rosaparks. I think it is already set to save every so often actually. And, gallingly I am quite paranoid about saving- I think that's what led to this debacle actually. I was trying to save as I went along to both the hard drive and the saving stick, Partner says next time to only save to stick at the end of the session... So wise after the fact he is, the blighter!

I have looked everywhere www. Really seems that I have totally failed to save the one I needed. Oh well- onwards and upwards. Need to get over myself and stop grumpy strop npw! Perhaps it is saved somewhere in my brain's hard drive and will emerge coherently and speedily at my next session. [hopeful] Thanks both for the sympathy.

Thanks batters. I am recovering now. Was mostly structural and thinking work and I still have the maths and figures. And worse things happen at sea. Breakfast time now, I think.

maybe don't call it a "return rate" or a "response rate" as it's not really comparable to a standard questionnaire method.

anyone who knows anything about internet methods and questionnaires is not likely to think that's a terrible response rate. you'd expect lots of people looking and not completing.

I know someone who did a PhD about internet fora/forums and chat rooms. it was very interesting. and noone questioned his response rate or quibbled about that side of it at all.

ScummyMummy · 11/08/2006 09:02

Yes, thanks fennel- will def steer clear of reponse/return rate discussion. I think I can't count on the person/people marking my dissetation knowing much about how internet forums work though, so am trying to explain how I went about trying to keep threads in the public eye by bumping and not discouraging even irrelevant chat, sort of thing.

So is this one of the research threads

How a bout 'hit rate'? like when you're talking about a website.

ScummyMummy · 11/08/2006 09:53

lol LC but no- this was a "question I am too thick to answer and too idle to find out for myself when i know there will be people on here to tell me" thread rather than a research thread. Though it has (I hope temporarily) morphed into a "disasters brought about by schoolgirl errors" thread!
