My husband and I are considering relocating to the Edinburgh area from Essex. HB needs to commute into Edinburgh with a maximum one hour journey. We have a two year old LB and I would like us to live in a village or small town which is very child friendly, pretty and friendly to incomers as I won't know anyone and would like to have friends! Any suggestions ? Oh and within reach of the airport as I will need to travel to London every few weeks. Any suggestions would be gratefully received as I don't know the area at all - thank you ! ??

Linlithgow.

Various villages in fife but only the ones on the coast west of aberdour although they are not that handy for airport- good trains into Edinburgh but you need to get bus to airport from there. burntisland, kinghorn, aberdour.

Some ok villages in east lothian but not reknowned for being friendly. dirleton is gorgeous though.

Do you want to be by the sea or inland?
Is public transport important?

And everywhere south if Perth and Stirling and north.of the border is within one hour of Edinburgh so that is a wide area to choose from. but there are places to avoid.

Edinburgh itself is very nice if you pick the right area and has village like areas like jumper green, portobello, duddingston, morningside, Colinton village...
