Anyone know anything about technical stuff??

It lets me use MSN but when I want to look at my emails it just asks me for my password, which it accepts as correct but instead of taking me into my emails it asks for my password again. very annoying. Need to read emails!!!!!

I have tried shutting down computer and re-booting but that didnt work.

Any ideas anyone? Anyone else having problems with a hotmail account - is there a glitch in the air? or is it just mine

Have you tried going into msn.com and accessing hotmail from there... if your name automatically shows up, delete it and retype it with your password. May or may not work, it's happened to me before...I think sometimes it's just hotmail being crap!!

CarlK · 19/07/2006 17:46

I use windows live mail so I'm not sure its the same.
If it was me I would check the staus page, clear my cookies down, and then reboot if that didnt sort it. After that I would walk away for an hour.
if its still a problem then I use their help links to get someone to check your accounts ok.

hub2dee · 19/07/2006 17:51

Yeah, delete all cookies, empty cache, reset browser, click your fingers three times and reboot. Should sort it. Check your preferences that you haven't enabled a high security mode where cookies are not stored...

(I take it you've click 'remember my password' on the login page ? )

It is a real pain - I nearly gave up my hotmail address in the end because it would never open!

Do you guys use Outlook Express or Outlook ? There is some kind of hotmail plugin / setup option whereby you can receive / send your hotmail messages through the application instead of through your browser IYSWIM. Might help ?

SaintGeorge · 19/07/2006 23:10

That depends how old the hotmail account is hub and if it is the free or paid version.

They changed it some time ago so that you can't do it anymore.

hub2dee · 20/07/2006 09:11

I have the free one, which I've had for many years, and at least on my Mac I can do it. Dunno about newer / Windoze. They (Mcro$oft) are so mean.

zephyrcat · 20/07/2006 09:17

I have a free hotmail account which is years old, but I don't use it for outlook - I use my ntl address through outlook and only use hotmail for my msn address. With hotmail it seems to go through staes of working fine then being an absolute nightmare!

While we're on the subject - I've just started with xp and outlook express is slightly different to win2000 and I can't seem to find a 'sent' folder for my emails - does it not exist anymore?

hub2dee · 20/07/2006 09:24

'Sent' folder should deffo exist ! Perhaps it is controlled by a preference - 'Save copy of sent messages' ?

poppiesinaline · 20/07/2006 09:58

all this technical stuff is going straight over my head My hotmail account is the old version too (and free) - please dont tell me they are stopping this.

I do use outlook express for another email account (I have a Mac too).

my hotmail account is still being a pain! GRRRR

I can't find anything to do with sent messages at all in any of the menus It's driving me mad having to try and remember to cc every email i send to myself to be sure it's gone!!

SaintGeorge · 20/07/2006 11:44

If you have an old hotmail account and already linked it to Outlook it should be ok - it is the newer hotmail accounts that don't allow it.

SaintGeorge · 20/07/2006 11:48

zephyrcat, try this:

Tools, Options, Email Options then there should be a tick box.

I use Outlook 2003 but I am sure OE has the same options.

zephyrcat · 20/07/2006 11:56

In outlook express tools/options the box is ticked, but on the actual outlook express page that opens to my inbox, I have icons along the top for File, Edit, Create mail, reply, reply all, forward, print, delete, send/receive, addresses and find. But no sent....

hub2dee · 20/07/2006 18:43

Thinking back, Ms. Saline, I've had hotmail fail to 'remember' my password. It drove me nuts. I'm trying to think back to what I did to fix it and I think the trick is to get the site to re-write the cookie which says 'user = poppies, password = blah' with a new one. So, instead of clicking 'remember my name and password' (which I'd religously clicked each time), I selected ' Secure mode' / 'Public access' or whatever it's called where it doesn't record or display your name etc. when you next log on. After I'd logged on like that, I could log out, and then log back in with the normal 'remember me' option checked. It's a bit like reprogramming its brain.
