have just realised I've made chilli with mince I took out the freezer on friday

no obvious smells but it was brown when I cooked it I remember now

am thinking of feeding it to DD .. doesn't seem like such a good idea atm

If it didn't smell it was probably alright. Beef always goes brown after it's been cut/minced - it's not necessarily a sign of badness.

In fairness to Twiglett the very reason that hot and spicy foods(curries - india, chilli - mexico) are found in hot countries is that the chillis kill bacteria and spices discuise the flavour of slightly gone off meats in places where traditionally they diddn't have refridgeration.
Beef shouldn't be bright red, supermarkets add a gas to the packaging to keep the meat red so as we think it is fresher than it is. Well really frsh meat is bright red but beef benefits from being aged so it should be a bit brown iyswim.
