Book Week at school - come in costume...

...got a note in the school's newsletter today encouraging us to dress our children in costume on Friday - as a favourite book character - any ideas for a six yr old boy (that I can assemble easily without spending hours fashioning)- my mind's a blank. Our local paper always has pics of children in costume at similar events and they never seem to be dressed as a character - just whatever fancy dress stuff comes to hand.

That would be really cool, and isn't there a Mike Myers 'Cat in the Hat' film out at the moment - I think it's coming out on DVD next month, so could be topical with kids at school.

ds is going as Oliver, he originally wanted the artful dodger but managed to persuade him that Oliver was best.

dd1 has to write a profile of a book character for her homework, then dress as that character for World book day. She was trying to decide between Little Women and Waterbabies.

My daughter is half Indian, and we just got back from a trip to India where we bought a load of clothes. We have a bunch of Indian story books, so she picked her costume first and then looked for the book!

dd1 has now decided she's going to be Princess Hermonthis, she's a character in one of the short story books that she loves to read.

my son wants to be someone from lord of the rings it is turning into a bit of a todo as he wants it so exact !

Thanks hmb, I love the shoe box idea! I also thought of getting her to go as A Series Of Unfortunate Events but she won't for some reason - oh well; I guess I'm making a mane tonight then.
