SAHMs. I'm sure this has been said before, but today it's really hacking me off.

Every day (okay, they vary a bit some days) hoover, shop, empty the dishwasher, fill the washing machine, defrost the freezer, change the bedlinen, empty the tumble dryer and wonder where to put the contents blah blah blah.

And my house is still a tip.

yes, yes You wont of seen my motivational housekeeping thread yet then!

tenalady · 17/07/2006 12:08

The same old jobs that take all day, not leaving you time for the things you really want to get done like a bit of decorating or gardening to help dh.

alexsmum · 17/07/2006 12:08

i know what you mean.my house is a tip-really messy and i have to spend this week really cleaning it as have my pils coming to stay this weekend.started off really well but then made fatal mistake of turning the computer on and have done nothing since.

lima · 17/07/2006 12:08

unfortunately all that cr*p still needs to be done when you're a WOHM as well - unless you have staff of course

earlgrey · 17/07/2006 12:11

Sod H, he gets on with his own jobs quite nicely at the weekend, while I simultaneously entertain the children and reflect on the cobwebs on the ceiling, and how pretty they appear now they've collected dust.

Do you find if you do one thing properly (gut the bathrooms, change all beds, catch up on peperwork etc) then everything else falls by the wayside? I manage to get everything to tick over nicely but when I have to batch cook for ds, nothing else gets done, if I do all the laundry, iron and put away, the house doesn't get hoovered...and so on.

lexiemum · 17/07/2006 12:12

it never ends. A friend did all my ironing a couple of weeks ago in a bid to get on top of it - worked for, um, 3 days!

and today? well washing up is done and dd's are playing "tents" with the sofa, blankets and cushions and I should be doing the housework but the addiction is calling...

5 mins till lunch needs preparing

tenalady · 17/07/2006 12:13

I think If I can help him with his jobs we get more time as a family together (silly me) We do have a large garden and its a nightmare to keep on top of, poor sod out there all the time to make it look nice for us. Given up on the Front though and am having a chap come and restore it to its former glory.

tenalady · 17/07/2006 12:15

Yes bramblina, that is it, you can keep going keeping the housework ticking over but you get an interuption like getting your hair done or similar and thats it chaos insues.

earlgrey · 17/07/2006 12:17

lima, yes, please don't think I hadn't thought of that.

Now someone shove me off MN!

I'm only on here in between kettle-boils to defrost the freezer, ok!

lima, that really struck home last week. There's a bit in the Guardian on a Saturday called Experience. My mum had written a piece for it, and 'cos she's not on the internet I couldn't OK the edited down version. I was emailing her till 7.40.

Mum went the the office the next day to ok it, whereupon she discovered she had a 4 yr old and a 14 month old.

I hang my head in shame.

earlgrey - I am a SAHM, my comment was not about SAHM v WOHM, it was more that all us parents have to do mountains of boring cr*p - goes with the territory ( sometimes I do think fondly of my pre-child days, much as I love my kids)

earlgrey · 17/07/2006 13:00

lima, I KNOW, I KNOW! Just thought that my post was rattling on about 'poor' sahms, when I realise some mums do both jobs. I was just trying to say that your post quickly stopped me from feeling sorry for myself!
