supermarket.

I get mine from the co-op and use it to rinse my nappies

charliecat · 14/07/2006 22:47

next to brown vinegar in super market.

NotQuiteCockney · 14/07/2006 22:48

White vinegar would normally be in the supermarket. What country are you in?

sunchowder · 14/07/2006 22:48

Yes in the vinegar section---I use it for everything. Put a 1/2 cup in the wash to freshen everything and clean my tile floors with it.

dolally · 14/07/2006 22:54

yes, gals, but DISTILLED, IT HAS TO BE DISTILLED, apparently. I can find in the supermarket, white vinegar, wine, cider, apple etc.. everything but DISTILLED.

Am in Portugal. Maybe have to try another supermarket if you gals reckon that's where it should be.

I get distilled white vinegar at the co-op

charliecat · 14/07/2006 22:56

oh, ok..I found distilled WATER in B and Q ..that was for a car battery

satine · 14/07/2006 22:57

Ooh, Sunchowder - will it stop my washing machine smelling of poo when I wash my dd's nappies in it? (I do rinse them first, but still...)

dolally · 14/07/2006 22:58

Do you think that DISTILLED is the same as the ordinary White vinegar that I have in my cupboard at the mo? DD didn't want to use that to grow her crystals, as it specifically says DISTILLED, on the instructions. I'm sure that im Portuguese it would say distilado and what I have in cupboard at mo does NOT say that!!

yes, charliecat, I thought I might get it in a B & Q type place but they just gawped at me and suggested the chemists... Well if you lot find it in the super I will try another one.

Satine, I would try it, why not? You wash them in hot water I assume--I would add at least a cup to the wash to see if that will do it. I swear by it.

NotQuiteCockney · 15/07/2006 05:50

dolally, I'm pretty sure normal white vinegar is distilled. (We're not talking white wine vinegar, right?) But I hope someone with more chemical knowledge will be along to confirm or deny. I might have a websearch if I'm bored enough.

NotQuiteCockney · 15/07/2006 05:52

Ah, this webpage agrees with me. "white vinegar = distilled vinegar = distilled white vinegar = white distilled vinegar" It's distilled from ethyl alcohol, that's how they make white vinegar.

Have searched high and low for distilled vinegar in Portugal. My Portuguese friends had no knowledge of it and supermarkets had only malt and a yellowish cider vinegar. Would love to know if you ever find a source.
