Friends are having a party on Sat night with an Oscars theme. Dress up as anything to do with the Oscars- songs, actors etc. Can't think of something which doesn't involve a lot of work- dh is going as Terminator 2, which is easy to dress as. Best I could come up with was going as Bridget Jones- in my jammies! And I know it didn't win any. Then I thought of you guys and your wonderful ideas..............

buy a long black sleeveless evening dress from a charity shop, slit it up both sides and refasten it with kilt pins a la liz hurley? could couple it with a long dark wig if that isn't your natural look.... i'm sure 4 weddings (the premiere that she wore the dress to) must have won SOMETHING, if only best screenplay?

pph- Brilliant idea, but I think I would look as if I've just burst out of the dress I just told dh and his eyes popped out- as long as his stitches don't burst from laughing.

Ooh Slinky you're a rascal, how clever!!

You could dress as Diane Keaton in Annie Hall, not too difficult (bot not too glam either ) OR Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara????

I was in Tesco yesterday and they had mock Oscar awards, reduced to 50p. Go and get one of those! I think they were left over from Valentines day cos they had 'worlds greatest lover' on the bottom of them . . .!

Fiend of mine did a wicked Bette Davies a la Baby Jane a few years back - dodgy dressing gown, slippers, hair in ringlets/curlers,heavy heavy makeup, false eyelashes, whisky bottle, fag etc - she looked amazing and I bet it would be great to look deliberately crap for an evening.

But if you want to go the no effort/carry a prop route, you could carry a whoopee cushion and say youre Gone with the Wind or a sheep glove puppet to be Silence of the Lambs .....
