Lots of books to donate to a good cause!

I've got about 250 books to donate to a good cause (preferably a charity but open to offers). Mainly novels up to 10 years old. Most in vgc. We're in NE London. Priority to charity that assists women/children but anything considered!

These wonderful people will assist Arabica Book Aid

Arabica · 10/07/2006 15:38

Thanks Marina, but they only want books up to 5 years old in vgc, and most of mine are a bit older and a bit scruffier!
Any more charities out there would like some reading material? I'm thinking prison libraries, hospitals, hospices, refuges...open to all offers but I do want rid of them before the baby comes (27 July)!

have you tried googling?

Arabica · 11/07/2006 13:50

I will but I like the idea of donating to a good cause recommended by an Mn poster, maybe a smaller charity or good cause.

I just gave loads to the Heart Foundation - they were a bit tatty, but they were very happy to have them. Realise it's not a women/children charity though

Arabica · 11/07/2006 14:10

They are an excellent cause though! Thanks for the idea. Did you take them to a shop or was it to a head office somewhere?

Isn't that for releasing books on an individual basis?

Hi Arabica! Hope all is well. There's a second-hand bookshop on Highbury Park which I managed to browse in once when DS was young and never since. If I remember rightly it's for an animal charity & I presume they'd be happy to take them off your hands. Can't remember the name though or find it on Google. But are you looking for someone to pick up rather than having to drop off? In which case this is no help is it,

aelita · 12/07/2006 12:50

Got it! Never give up on Google. It's actually on Blackstock Rd

Animal Aid & Advice - North London

A small group operating in the north London area which tries to rescue unwanted cats (or kittens), rabbits and to rehouse them satisfactorily. Charity bookshop is open 10am-5.30pm at Blackstock Road, N5 (phone 020 7359 0294 for further details). Volunteers always welcome for shop work, fundraising and fieldwork.

arabica, why not ring HMP Holloway and see what they say?

Parkhurst Road

Tel: 020 7979 4400

Or the local surestart?

Arabica · 13/07/2006 10:35

Thanks will try them both, I was thinking about Holloway, you've saved me a google visit.
