You know the threads that ur suppose to check? Are you suppose to put your hand in in order to feel them? I forgot to ask the gp when she was done, and she didn't mention it. i can't seem to feel them.

dear me, the young ones these days, what is the world coming to!

poisson · 06/07/2006 16:57

i got her to check mine at my smear

am sure they disappear more the longer you haev them

mili · 06/07/2006 17:00

yes - you have to shove your hand up I'm afraid

best to do it lying down in bed I found - the strings often lie around the walls of your vagina so don't expect them to be dangling in the middle

i check mine once a month, can just about feel them but they're only short. try checking when you're in the shower, sometimes the angle can make them disappear. or if not, get your partner to do it . if you can't feel them it doesn't mean there's a problem or anything, and yours should be fine if you've just had it checked with a gp. they may just be short and not poking through the cervix

mili · 06/07/2006 17:03

lance exactly what so ing?

OP posts:
mili · 06/07/2006 17:05

i thought ur suppose to check andthat it would be just inside

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 06/07/2006 17:08

I didn't have a coil for long but was quite surprised how far up the strings were

mine felt a bit like wire (slightly softer) - I could just feel the prick of the end of the strings on my finger - not like being able to feel a whole string iyswim

mili · 06/07/2006 17:16

so the gp isn't suppose to/need to tell what position their to be in? so why did all those leaflets say they will tell and if they're not in position, they may(?) not be effevtive?
really! i wish they wouldn't worry us (me) with all these details that u could ignor

I think you are supposed to be able to feel them - sometimes they really wrap around the walls so can be hard to find

southeastastra · 06/07/2006 17:31

you can feel them really easily!

Lance · 06/07/2006 17:48

godness gracious, shocking

chopsolata · 06/07/2006 17:52

god I never feel mine and its been in a year cant bring myself to do it

mili · 06/07/2006 18:22

lance??????????

OP posts:
mili · 06/07/2006 18:23

does that mean i can go without checking? (please say yes)

OP posts:
Reginald · 06/07/2006 18:24

I've never checked mine either

I'm a bit squeamish about putting me hand up

foxinsocks · 06/07/2006 18:24

I think if you don't want to check, you don't have to

I was so terrified of the thing falling out and me getting pregnant that I made sure it was there quite a bit

Perigrine · 06/07/2006 18:25

Don't worry think it is someone, pretending to be a bloke, pretending to be horrified at "wimins talk"

southeastastra · 06/07/2006 18:31

you have to check to make sure they're still there doing the job! why are you all scared to?

mili · 06/07/2006 18:41

perry, its okay then will ignore her/him
not exactly scared, just squimish. i didn't realise u had to put ur hand in. i just got worried when i couldn't feel anything in the opening.

OP posts:
mili · 06/07/2006 18:42

so do u just make sure u can feel them? not worry where they are?

OP posts:
Lance · 06/07/2006 18:44

no harm meant lass. Just us old lads aren't used to talking about women's troubles.

I'm off to have a root around Win's garden now anyway

Reginald · 06/07/2006 18:46

surely one would notice if it fell out? it's not that small!
