What printer is it?

There might be a "printer utilities" programme. Look through your programmes for something by your printer manufacturer

Tortoise click Start, then all programs and see if there is anything about Epson in the list.

If not, you will need to surf to Epson's website and download a printer monitor from there (or from your installation CD, if you have it).

I have a different model of Epson Stylus but maybe the instructions for both are similar? This is how I do mine; might be worth a try.

Printer should be switched on with the On light constant, not flashing.

Close the document cover, open the printer unit from the front.

Press the INK button on the panel (looks like a tear shape). The print head moves to the ink cartridge checking position and the ON light and the INK light flash. The print head will move to the empty cartridge (there is a symbol that looks like a tear with a line through it - this will be lined up with the cartridge that needs replacing). Press the INK button again, and the print head will move to the next cartridge that is empty. When all the empty cartridges have been indicated, the print head moves back to the replacement position, and you can replace the cartridge.
