Could you measure the legs (parts NA1 2 3 & 4) and bits at the top (NB1 and 2) because B&Q are a bunch of useless t*ssers.

I need Height Width and Depth (although think they're square)

Have got B&Q Head office number to phone but I'm crp at getting angry anyway without crying, I'm crp on the phone and I'm not in the mood.

can't you get dh to phone (I'm like you I get so angry I cry and its not a good thing...! - I get dp to throw the strop instead....)

WigWamBam · 05/07/2006 11:53

Just went out with a tape measure but I can't reach the top of the pieces to measure the height properly. Width and depth: NA 1 - 4 are around 9cm x 9cm (difficult to be more accurate as the corners are rounded off), NB 1 and 2 are 6cm by 6cm.

If you don't get anyone to measure the height, I can ask dh to help me do them when he gets home tonight.

SoupDragon · 05/07/2006 11:57

DH is less use than a chocolate teapot (at least with a chocolate teapot you get chocolate)

Ta WWB. I can probably estimate the height from the picture and the height of the other bits.

oh I will gladly phone

I am v good at being politely angry on the phone

Have they sent you the wrong thing? Broken?

SoupDragon · 05/07/2006 12:11

There are 4 packs and I got packs 3, 4 and 2 lots of 2. It's my own fault for not unwrapping everything and checking it all last summer apparently. I did check the packages against the delivery note although clearly not very accurately. I'm now "out of warranty" so basically can go and get stuffed.

Sigh, I'll have to summon up the energy to call late I guess. Thanks for the offer Olive.

Are they still selling this ben nevis thing? If so, phone your local shop and say you have the wrong thing etc etc and bob in with the wrong bit and exchange.

They will usually have someone about 12 on the customer services who will want to get back to squeezing spots so you should not have any bother.

xx

oliveoil · 05/07/2006 12:15

PS Don't mention warranty yadda yadda OR that you bought it last year. Take Baby Dragon and make sure she is due a feed and cranky. You will be ushered out pronto.

SoupDragon · 05/07/2006 12:18

Sadly, they're not selling it. It was end of line last year and 75% off. It looks much the same construction as the current stock.

Customer services at our store is manned by middle aged women - I've had to argue with them before and they were difficult to budge from their Jobsworth attitude.

Considering the trouble they had last year with them im suprised the person didnt faint at hearing the words Ben Nevis.
They DOOOO sell the wood though...so its just a case of convincing someone you need it for free.

SoupDragon · 05/07/2006 12:23

I don't think the person I spoke to was old enough to work last year so won't have heard about it.

She told me not to be sarcastic.

I'll have to trek up to B&Q I guess and look. Which means, obviously, that I'll have to stop off at Ikea first for free coffee.

I don't think the "real" store has any obligation to sort out the cr*p service of the online store though.

You might have more success pleading to their better nature by letter, direct to the Managing Director at Head Office. Mark it Private and Confidential and it might get to him before anyone else intercepts it. Be extra polite, calm and controlled in your letter and ask if they could supply the missing parts or at least supply the wood to make new ones. Subtle grovelling sometimes works!!

Good luck.

charliecat · 05/07/2006 12:26

I can already see you coming back with a car load of ikea stuff and nothing for the Ben Nevis..BE STRONG!!

SoupDragon · 05/07/2006 13:18

Might try a letter.

Had a very nice helpful lady from B&Q phone me today. The've reserved me one of their new stock of climbing frames (which are all out of stock, naturally) to replace Ben. Hurrah!

I did say that if they had trouble finding the "A" version they were offering me I would accept the bigger more expensive one(s).

charliecat · 10/07/2006 21:23

OMG Result You have to log onto MSE and tell them this!

SoupDragon · 10/07/2006 21:29

I think this is an unusual case because it's been a year. They're not innundated with complaints so can afford to be charitable!

I didn't have to try too hard either. After I replied to the "phone customer services" email to say what a pointless waste of time it was, they came through with this today.

The new ones are all out of stock now... sound familiar??? I'll believe it when I have it constructed in my garden! I'm going to try and swipe the (spare) swing beams and bolts from Ben though as that shape fitted better in the garden.

OP posts:
charliecat · 10/07/2006 21:31

link to your supposed new one please...nosey

SoupDragon · 10/07/2006 21:32

This one

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 10/07/2006 21:33

Did Ben have a sandpit cover included? Might have to swipe that from the pack too...

OP posts:
charliecat · 10/07/2006 21:37

ben did have a sandpit cover yeah...thats the ben fame with longer bits of wood going to the roof and without the arm stalks isnt it? Lovely!

SoupDragon · 10/07/2006 21:39

Yes I'm not sure the one long bar for the swings will fit properly in our garden - not that our garden isn't big enough, but it's not level. Could prove tricky.

I tried to persuade them to leave Ben here with me rather than "up lifting" it.

Feel justified in swiping the sandpit cover and spare swing beams plus bolts. Hopefully they won't notice

OP posts:
charliecat · 11/07/2006 08:20

hide them well

SoupDragon · 11/07/2006 09:53

I'm figuring the delivery drivers won't have a clue what they're collecting, especially since everything's unpacked.
