Driving into Bristol from the M4. What's the traffic like on a Sunday?

We need to drive to Bristol on Sunday. We'll be coming from the M27. Is it best to head up the M3 and along the M4 or to travel diagnolly across country i.e. through Salisbury and Bath.

Anyone have any advice?

A34 and M4 definitely. My parents live in Winchester and I can go from them to Bristol iva that route in an hour and a half.

I used to be student in Bath and the cross country routes are definitely slower.

I did a trip to ikea in bristol last wedneday afternoon,left ringwood at 3pm got to ikea which is just off the m4 at 5pm.That was going a34 m4 way.It's a dull drive but faster as you always get stuck behind slow caravans or tesco lorries the other way.
