I've just been watching my 16 month old sitting down to drink her bedtime milk and I'm amazed at how much her tummy bulges out.

Do all little ones have bulging tummies?

my 15 month old does

Isn't it because their abdominal muscles aren't developed quite yet?
Is that why mine bulges too?

NotQuiteCockney · 02/07/2006 20:10

Yeah, no abs, but lots of organs. It sorts itself out, my 4-year-old has lovely abs.

Yeah, my ds has. He's nearly 2. Was wondering if it'd ever go as he eats....loads!

Livers!
Children have big livers in comparisson to the rest of them and so they tend to have a podgy tummy look. They sort of grow into their livers lol

my dd does too. was also counting the spare tyres - about 4 i think. soooo cute!

mckenzie · 02/07/2006 21:13

it is cute isn't it? My DD's favourite thing at the moment is to lift up her dress/top and show you her lovely bulging tummy.

My DD is 2.1 and reasonably slight/petite (is mainly wearing 12-18 clothes) apart from a very well rounded tum. Her skirts sit under her belly much as a middle-aged blokes trousers fit under his beer belly. Her brother who is 5 has turned from a much podgier toddler into a skinny malinkey though.

Bozza · 02/07/2006 21:18

oh mackensie DD is into lifting her skirt but it is to show off her big girl pants - do generally get a flash of belly though.

My 3.5 yr old ds still has a bulgy tummy, i think it look lovely and my grandfather said that babies when he was young never did.

I also noticed that his tummy button is turning into an outie.

My DS is 17m, weighs 28lbs but doesn't have the customary Whinnie the Pooh tummy. He's almost got a six pack - we call him Clark Kent because he's so strong and solid. Eats like a horse too.
