ok, (dons anorak) this is so boring I am ashamed to ask. In a lame attempt to make this readable here goes.

Once upon a time a mumsnetter had a shiny seebord electricity meter that lived on the outside of her house in a little wooden box. One day (are you asleep yet?) she realised the the wooden box had got all old and a bit damp and the meter needed a new home to keep it safe and shiny, not least because the carport it lived under had to come down as it was very very ugly. etc

Any idea where to get a weather proof meter box we can attach to the house which would protect the meter? there must be purpose built thingummies that do this?

a very sensible reply harman! not boring!

trouble is, I called see bord and they said they contract out all their meter work to another company who had changed their name etc and when I tracked them down they said they'd send me a quote for sending a bloke out to have a look at it (I think I got a bit bogged down and thought the meter may need moving).

the original box is kind of home made and rather sweet. BUT I think I will phone seebord back and just ask them where to get one of their standard boxes to fit ourselves (IYKWIM!) - good idea - google search came up with nothing

If I come to the bar tonight will everyone leave (oh god it's that woman again, she's bound to start talking about toilet brushes and drain cleaner)

I'm not usually like this (she said weakly). Honestly

Squirmy, I want to thank you. I was writing about some quite boring things yesterday. Every time I gave up the will to live I visited this thread and returned fascinated and refreshed to the task at hand.

One day the electricity-meter fairy came floating down gently from the sky. She saw the sad, dampened meter in its poor little wooden box and said,

"Is there anything I can do to help you, my dear?"

"Yes please," the meter shivered. "Make that nasty electricity company get me a new house. After all I belong to them don't I? Won't it cost them more to replace me if I finally have to leave this earth because I got so wet? All my other meter friends seem to have been given snug little plastic cupboards so why can't I have one?"
