URGENT!!! I can't get my coursework to print in Word!

It's a bog standard Word document containing photos and one diagram (inserted as a picture). When I Print Preview, it all comes up fine, but when I print it, only the pictures come out.

Help! I've got to hand it in next week and have been tussling with it all evening.

It may be too big for your printer which could mean it will take forever to print and will do at the end. But if you keep getting errors print one page at the time. If that doesn't work, save each page as a new document.

Obviously the right answer would be to retouch the graphics in order to make them "lighter" but... not worth the effort...

God, what a faff. I've tried printing one page at a time, but they all just come out as blank, or just with pictures on. So you think it's a printer issue rather than Word?

Thanks for your help btw.

Try saving it as a new document (with different name not to get confused)

If you copy and paste a page of text to a new word document, will that print? If it will, could you just do that for the whole thing and print the diagram separately?

fuzzywuzzy · 23/06/2006 22:10

If you right click on the pictures do you get an option to send pictures to the back?? Do it if you do.
Also check your printing settings have you enabled the print background check box??

englandflag · 23/06/2006 22:11

Tried both of those and it's not printing any text at all

If anyone comes up with any bright ideas, thank you in advance - I'm going to switch the printer off for a little rest and try not to panic just yet...

What kind of files are the images? are they very detailed? which program did you use to create them?

tamum · 23/06/2006 22:14

I keep wondering about postcript, but I can't remember why that could be relevant so it's probably not...

Chandra · 23/06/2006 22:15

yes the postcript thing!!! how was it???? it's years since my last problem with it...

sebnem · 23/06/2006 22:19

try the page setup.
try to change the values of left-right, top-bottom, or even landscape.
or try to do it in notedpad.

Me too Chandra....

englandflag · 23/06/2006 22:22

They're just photos and one is a drawing that I've scanned in.

DH has just staggered in so have to go for now - thanks again and will check this tomorrow .

It may be the case that your photos are huge and need to be re-touched in a graphic program to reduce the resolution and make them more suitable to print in a domestic printer. Try to reduce the actual size of the image rather than just resizing it in word.
