I got an email from a lady who had found me on the genes reunited website and she saw that I had someone called X in my family tree. It seems that her elderly auntie in Wisconsin has died and when they were clearing her house out they found a bible with X name in it.
She had spoken to all her relatives about this and no-one knows why her auntie should have the bible as X does not (it appears) feature in her family.
She contacted me and after we established that it was the right X she has sent me the bible. It belonged to X mother who was given it in 1853 aged 13 yo. It has loads of entries in it about other members of the family which I didn't know inc not just dates but times of births and a sibling of X I never knew existed as she didn't live long and therefore does not appear on any cenus records.
I am so excited about this!! (I do excite easily).
What I really want to know but will probably never find out is why the aunt ended up with it and also why it ended up in Wisconsin USA when the family in question never left West Yorkshire. I guess some things are meant to be secret forever!!

Wow Helsi - this would excite me too Grin Have you been on the 1841 census yet?

helsi · 19/06/2006 16:59

yes its great although some bits of info are missing so not as clear as other census'. Not always clear if it is the right person or not.

Wow helsi, how exciting is that?!!!! Wasn't that amazing that she found you!! You might be able to research the other members of the family which you didn't know existed. How very exciting for you, now you've got an adventure waiting for you!!

How exciting !

I have just been contacted by a man in Tasmania (via Genes reunited as well) who is related by marriage via my great-uncles, who married 2 of his aunts. It turns out that we both have a copy of a family photo of one of the weddings and have between us been able to name virtually all of the people on it (about 30 in all !). Both he and my mother are in the photo as toddlers and my mum is sat on his sisters knee. I find it disconcerting that someone can just contact me and we can find out this sort of info - wierd innit ? But v exciting too.

I've just started DH's side of the family now and I'm waiting for a couple of birth certificates to confirm things - there is a really long wait at the moment!

unfortunatley I can't go far with DH side as he is adopted and his adoptive dad was a refugee from Hungary and won't speak about his family over there - which is sad. On my side I am doing quite well though.
