Help - freaky noise in my house NOW! I think it's in the walls...

THere's a weird intermittent hum in my house atm - every couple of minutes. It sounds electrical but we've eliminated all the things it could be - transformers etc. It sounds like a phone on vibrate or a breadmaker, but inside the walls. Where should I be looking now??

its always the freezer that makes the strange nois3es in our house - it makes a wall vibrate.

our fridge made a weird noise - we found a can of frozen pepsi with a small hole in it, just waiting to explode!

maybe the noise is outside? boiler?

It isn't bees, is it?

We had masonry bees in the walls of our last house, they did make some funny noises.

NotQuiteCockney · 16/06/2006 08:20

If honey bees make honey, do masonry bees make masonry?

It doesn't sound like bees, from your description. How old is your house, any chance anything electrical got left somewhere silly in construction? How regular is the hum?

FrannyandZooey · 16/06/2006 08:21

No, they make a right mess though.

I bet it is bees, actually. It's the right time of year for them to all hatch out.

Definitely not bees! we've narrowed it down to somewhere on the floor in the lounge, against one of two walls. It's completely random and only lasts a second. A low hummmmz then it's gone. Ds thought it might be one of his many missing bubble machines, but we've ust tracked them all down now. Hope dh hasn't got a "toy" he's not told me about Grin

Could a neighbour have a washing machine on - maybe a new one?

mcmudda · 16/06/2006 09:33

No neighbours! Live in the sticks!

It's probably some sort of toy, and the batteries will run out? Eventually?

Mystery Solved!!

It's a friend's mobile! We've just torn our lounge apart and found a very posh skinny black phone underneath one of the armchair cushions. Bit desperate really cos his wife is 3 days overdue and will probably need to get hold of him asap!

Thankfully not bees or anything about to explode Grin
