Lost Zip card - how can I prevent it happening again?

Does anyone have any advice on how to organise a child so they don't keep losing their ZIP card. My nephew just cost his (age 11) and he lost it in the first week. He loses everything. The cost of replacement is £10 each time. Any ideas on how to get him to keep it safe or we'll be bankrupt by October.

Make him "earn" the cost of replacement by doing jobs? Make him walk to/from school instead? Although I appreciate that may not be practical? Remove it at the end of each week so he can't use it at weekends to see friends/travel around until you feel he can be trusted not to lose it again?
