Ok, anyone know about sky

  • is it possible to get it outside uk (web site says must be uk resident). anyone give info on this.

Also, if you want it in more than 1 room, can you just get a wire with 2 plugs (ahem, not v. technical, me), or a sneder thing, or do you need 2 sky boxes. And if you need 2 boxes, where can you get the boxes from?

you cannot get sky for an address outside the uk for copyright reasons. But if you get a big enough satellite dish, you can get it in almost all of europe (\link{http://www.brymar.co.uk/info/Astra/astra.html\look here}) - you just need to give a uk address when you sign up.

re 2 rooms: yes, you can just put a doubler on the back, but then you can only watch the same channel in both rooms. for 2 channels, you need 2 boxes.

ooh ta, is giving the uk address not breaking the copyright laws then? Would it have to be an address they don't already have sky? (difficult), what's a double exaclt, just a double headed plug? ANd where does one get the boxes. great help sp ta

Ernest it is possible, but officially it is not legal as SP describes. However you can legitimately get the free to air channels via Satellite without a Sky card if you set it up correctly and there are companies who will set the Sky packages up for you (for a fee, of course!!) such as \link{http://www.germansky.com/\here}. You may get a compatible box and dish on ebay or occasionally on boards such as \link{http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SwissSwapandShop/\Swiss Swap and Shop group}, which a local company could then set up, to reduce the cost. With Sky abroad you cannot use the interactive services and it is recommended you contact them from a mobile. Not sure about using it in more than one room though.

it's not you that's breaking the law as i understand it, it's them by selling it to you. you need a uk bank account too.

by doubler I mean a plug that allows you to put two tv cables into the back of the box (one would be a really long cable that goes to another room). ask in an electrical shop. boxes can be bought online or through any local expat satellite co - there are loads in spain. where are you?
