I know that there are a number of eBay threads - but I am wanting a set of guidelines that I should stick to.

I never knoew there were so many experts out there ...

Please let me know lessons that you have learnt - and how can I track down all those bargains that we hear about
Thanks

It will have been paid to your email address.......er have you went to the paypal site, have they sent you an email saying you have cash or something similar. You can indeed refund the money and ask for a cheque as it wasnt in your terms that you would acept paypal.

crystaltips · 06/02/2004 20:29

Thanks Charliecatd - Yup PayPal said that I have cash to claim - and I do have a paypal account so I just want it moved from email address to account - How do I do this though ??

Is there nothing in the email or any links you can follow? Is your paypal account addy the same as the email addy that ebay is used for iyswim if it is then its just a case of accepting the payment. Sign into your usual paypal account and see if its there?

Failing that, follow any links from the email, refund the money saying you dont accept paypal and then email the buyer and ask fror a cheque...or give her your usual paypal email adress?

GenT · 06/02/2004 20:33

CT you need to cancel that payment in order not to incur charges, not do a refund

if you want the buyer to pay you to the paypal acoount then give her that account details

kiwisbird · 06/02/2004 20:39

The sender of the payment needs to cancel it, not the receiver:
Ask your buyer to cancel payment and send cheque instead.
Got this of paypal help slot.

The following 'Unclaimed' payments may be cancelled:
A payment sent to an email address that is not associated with a PayPal account - once the email address is added to a PayPal account, the payment will be automatically credited to that balance
A payment sent to a recipient with an unconfirmed email address - for security reasons, PayPal can only credit payments sent to a confirmed email address

GenT · 06/02/2004 20:41

you are correct kiwisbird, I bow down

charliecat · 06/02/2004 20:47

I have refunded payments and not incurred charges.

HiddenSpirit · 06/02/2004 21:33

GenT · 06/02/2004 23:15

HiddenSpirit, well check girdavson, I have some shoes up for auction, take a look, it ends tomorrow I think

HiddenSpirit · 07/02/2004 00:24

Thanks genT, had a look, but they would be a bit small for our DD lol

If you list any more, gimme a shout so I can go nosey

GenT · 07/02/2004 10:01

Any special size or things you are looking for?

I bidded on a skipping rope with a counter last week and won it for £4.21 including postage. Received it this morning and a cheque for £2.21 because the counter was faulty. Now that is a deal, not pink either. I can counter/time myself.

Doesn't happen every day.

HiddenSpirit · 07/02/2004 11:10

Well our DS1 is 5yrs, DD is 4 and DS2 is 2. There is no way I'm saying what size I am though

I just love "browsing" through ebay stuff in general and if something catches my eye, I'll either put a watch on it or bid on it there and then

So anytime you're selling anything (and I mean anything ) give me a shout and I dare say at some point you will be dealing with me on ebay

I agree that was a bargain I got a play jacket for DS2 from ebay for 6p I think it was, and the only thing wrong with it was the motif was coming off a bit on it

Bron - your first thing you should do is email the seller. Say you don't think the goods match up to the description on Ebay and that you would like a refund. If it's a reputable seller they should be happy to do this. (What feedback rating to they have btw?) I think it's reasonable to expect a full refund including postage charges both ways.

roisin · 12/02/2004 13:47

Btw - have they given you feedback already? They might have done if they've received and cashed your cheque.

If they've left feedback for you they can't retract it, and they can't leave any further feedback.

roisin · 12/02/2004 14:12

I would go ahead and contact them. The feedback system is designed as a last resort - most sellers will try and satisfy their buyers so they don't leave negative feedback. If they offer you a full refund, you can then go on and leave positive feedback for them: tell them in your email that this is what you would like to do, but that if it is not resolved satisfactorily you will have to leave negative feedback. ... Actually on reflection, maybe do this on the second email if you get a less than positive response.

pie · 12/02/2004 14:18

They can't leave further feedback but they can post a follow up comment under the feedback they have already left.

marthamoo · 12/02/2004 14:25

I've just had a cheque from a buyer (he has taken over a week to send the damn thing) and he's got my name wrong. Say, I was Sarah Thomas, he's made it payable to Sarah Thompson. Grrrrrr. So I've emailed him and said if he doesn't get another cheque in the post today, 1st class, he'll have to wait til the week after next for his goods as we're away for the whole of half term. PITA.
