Now that the day has arrived that we have dropped formula an have happily gone on to Full Fat Cows Milk after a gentle build up. What other suggestions have any of you for general drinks for a 13 month old. I took the advice from the suggestions on Desserts and they have worked so look forward to your advice!

My ds gets watered down fresh juice (1/4 to 1/3 juice, rest water) at meals at home but only water the rest of the day (occasionally milk after evening meal, but eats tonnes of yoghurt/cheese, so calcium requirement well covered). At daycare, the children are given watered down juice for morning tea (with fruit), milk for lunch and only water the rest of the day. Ds did go through a phase of screaming for juice when given water, but we (and carers) toughed it out and he'll happily take water now. He has never liked anything too sweet or anything at all fizzy, so I guess this helps him not get attached to cordial/straight juice/fizzy drinks etc.

PS I too would rather give ds sugar than aspartame or any other artifical sweetener, but having said that we do try to limit his sugar intake.

Robinw, no I am not vegetarian, probably the opposite whatever that is. We eat organic red meat regularly but you need Vit C to absorb the iron. The water here is disgusting so we drink bottled water all the time, dd has had Evian from birth. She never has fizzy drinks because she doesn't like them - hasn't really had the opportunity to get used to them. I know from experience that I am giving the right balance of liquids and the right amount (lots, usually, of water, milk and organic fruit juice watered down).
