I despair does anyone have a cleaner who is half way decent/reliable who would like 2-3 hours in Tooting once a week? More importantly, someone that they would recommend? thanks anyone.

yes, i do! our fantastic cleaner is looking for extra work atm. please contact me off-board using "contact another talker".

florenceuk · 28/01/2004 20:15

Ooh do you think she would want another client in Wimbledon? Madgirl first of course. My cleaner got flu and went AWOL.

eddm · 28/01/2004 20:50

If your first choice doesn't come up, do try a company called SELCLENE. They vet all their cleaners and take care of Nat Insurance etc . etc. etc., cover S London, we've had great service from them and will be sorry to say goodbye to our cleaner when we move. Haven't got their number to hand but they are in the book.

florenceuk, I have contacted you via e-mail as I am in your area and have a cleaner I would recommend. Madgirl, I'm a little further out than you (will be in Tooting tomorrow, though) but are you still looking?

madgirl · 29/01/2004 09:03

wow this is one of those threads that i started thinking "oh no one is going to bother with this one" and fanTAStic- you all have! cheers all. i am going to contact bossykate (bk we must stop meeting like this) as it sounds like she is near me. good to know that selclene are good company. fisil, hope all's well with you- i see you on other threads and keep meaning to e you, i'm STILL pondering my next career move...methinks I should try and organise a sw london meet up. i went to a city in the lunchtime one a few weeks ago and it was really great meeting other mumsnetters- no one was short of sth to say! you can imagine the gaggle of women in wagamamas!

Thanks fisil! Actually my first cleaner was from Selclene - but the other 3 they have sent since she left have been not so good, so good to get a recommendation.

We've been using Selclene, and I think the overheads are really expensive. I'd rather take up references myself and pay more to the person doing the actual work. As for the insurance, I discovered (when investigating before employing a nanny) that our contents insurance covers any accidents involving or caused by a 'domestic servant' which includes a nanny or cleaner.
(Can I join the queue for BK's cleaner after the others?)

madgirl · 29/01/2004 15:38

bk i emailed tech - did you get it? mg

OP posts:
bossykate · 29/01/2004 15:57

yes i did - need to get contact details from cleaner before responding.

bossykate · 29/01/2004 15:58

btw - she says she wants quite a bit of extra work. i will talk to her tonight to see how she wants to play it and get back to you all.

SofiaAmes · 29/01/2004 20:48

bk, could you see whether she would come as far as acton. I am happy with my cleaner, but she lives too far away and can only come once a week for a full day. Ideally I'd love someone twice a week for a half day each time.

binkie · 29/01/2004 21:42

We've just used thegumtree.com to look for a cleaner and think we've found someone really good. It involves quite a lot of e-mailing & reference-checking (since no word of mouth), but there do seem to be loads of people looking for work (in Acton too).

binkie · 29/01/2004 22:05

I feel very dim.

SA, it was your own recommendation that started me down thegumtree route. And there I was acting the big know-all.

Sorry.

SofiaAmes · 29/01/2004 22:32

I just don't have the time to interview and be at home with someone. I figure if they come recommended then I'm willing to trust them. (not like I have too much worth stealing in my house). Of course it's a totally different thing with childcarers.

bossykate · 30/01/2004 20:42

hi

i have emailed madgirl, batters and sofiaames with the details.

blu, florenceuk - if you're still interested, please contact me via mumsnet and i'll forward the details on to you as well.

Batters I have tred to contact you via "contact another talker" but no reply so perhaps I've done it wrong (although possibly you've replied to my registered mumsnet address which is work and I haven't been in since Tuesday - hurrah!
I would really like a reliable cleaner - we live in Fulham, would this be in your cleaner's area?

Need a weekly cleaner and a daily nanny or cook (either of them would work) in Richmond/isleworth area. Any suggestions would be most helpful. Thx
