Does anyone know anything about Limewire, the music download site?

My dsd said today that she had downloaded Limewire to her laptop. DP and I are to say the least rather clueless about these things

dsd says it's virus-free, safe to use and that it doesn't cost anything - is this true?

yes it is virus free as long as you dont download the advertising package that comes with it
it is safe
and it is free
(might be illegal though)
it does slow the computer down though when downloading

Limewire is File Sharing.

File Sharing is illegal.

Therefore Limewire is illegal.

Basic rule of thumb: free music is probably illegal music. Breaks all the rules of copyright and such.

No, cos I use Limewire

The main thing to be careful of is not to go crazy. People are getting prosecuted but you would need to be downloading loads to come onto their radar I think.

File sharing is basically when 1 person purchases the music, stores it on their PC and then lets other people access their PC online to copy the music.

So the music is only paid for by the original purchaser, everyone else gets a free copy.

They get warrants and impound al the info they need from the companies who own the sites.
