Whats the weather like on the Isle of Arran in Scotland in August?

Hope I havent spelt that wrong but bet I have Friend said she was off there for a holiday and was looking at vest tops.
I laughed and said you will need a raincoat and some woollys more like.
I used to live in Scotland and have memories of wet and BLOODY FREEZING and the occasional bit of sun that made everyone delirious...
...whats it really like though so I can tell her what sort of stuff to pack. Thanks :)

we always used to go there in Aug when we were children and it can be surprisingly warm - have swum in sea there (but as child not adult...). Had a holiday there in early Sept recently and it was definitely t-shirt weather - woollies for evenings though. It's much warmer than the east coast of Scotland definitely.

Clothes aside, she will most definitely need to pack anti-midgie spray etc though for August.

I don't recall the need for vest tops, except the wool variety! We all went there in August two years ago (my father used to go every summer as a boy) and we had a couple of sunny days paddling on the beach (but no removal of clothes!) Also rainy days when we barely got outside. Still, it is a lovely place.

IME you can often chase the good weather there - because it's mountainous in the middle, you often find that if you go to the other side of the island the weather is quite different. It is a lovely lovely place, in fact have just been looking at holiday rental site for Oct half term.

i went to the folk festival there once...and i think it was august...summer anyway.
me and my friend spent the weekend in jeans,but little tops.it didnt even rain!
id sya be prepared for anything though cos there is not much once you are there
