Hi girls

"Hi Mum- you are going to be a nan"

GULP

DD1 is pg and now living in Germany.

I am going to be a nan.
Gobsmacked is not the word as i feel i am too young at 36.
But i have got used to the idea now but those words hit me like a ton of bricks.

Dd is getting married asap. Her fiance is a lovely lad.

I will defy nanahood by still wearing my mini-skirts
dh has said i am too old now

I am pretty sure dd1 will be rooting through these boards.

Good grief, I was a year older than you when I became a mum!

Congratulations to all!

Kayleigh · 24/01/2004 16:47

fisil · 24/01/2004 18:41

That is so cool. They'll have to set up a new topic: grandparents.

Congratulations!

WideWebWitch · 24/01/2004 19:11

Congratulations - gosh, how young to be a granny! Definitely keep wearing the mini skirts, I would if my legs were up to it (I'm 37)

Ghosty · 24/01/2004 19:14

Doormat .... what fantastic news ...
Your lucky grandchild will know you when he/she grows up ... wonderful

tigermoth · 24/01/2004 19:21

congrats doormat! and so it begins - mumsnet, the second generation, with your dd posting here.

Just think, you'll be a mother in law too - and a groovy one by the sound of it!

In years to come I wonder how many of our offspring will use these boards? will they dig up old threads about them and add mesages years later stating their own views an issue we've discussed....eek!

katierocket · 24/01/2004 19:47

many congrats doormat - You'll be the best gran by far - all that experience to pass on!

stupidgirl · 24/01/2004 19:59

Congratulations to doormat and your daughter

Very exciting - I hope my children have children young, I'd love to be a young granny

Caroline5 · 24/01/2004 20:10

Congratulations nanadoormat!! Dh's brother got married at 33 and immediately became a step-grandad! (his wife is a bit older than him ) He's not actually a Dad himself!

WSM · 24/01/2004 20:26

BLIMEY !! Is this your lovely DD who went out to Iraq ? Many congratulations to you and yours. When is the little 'un due ? Wedding AND baby planning, how exciting Are the other kids excited about becoming aunties/uncles ?

It took my Mum a long old time to come to terms with becoming a nanna in her early 40's. DH and I told her when we were 10 weeks in, and she was still very distant about it up to around 35 weeks ! Of course now that DD is here she wonders what all the fuss was about .

doormat · 26/01/2004 09:36

Thanx again for all the congrats

I never thought about the second generation bit of mumsnetters

If she has just found out (obviously she conceived around xmas and new year)

I havent found out about the due date as yet

Congratulations! I have always wanted to be a grandma. I never really wanted children that much, but had them just so I can become a grandma. Lucky you!

JanH · 26/01/2004 10:16

Many Congratulations Doormat Should chance your name now to GrandmaDoormat

At least you get to be a young nan who the grandchildren will want to stay with and play with - you will be the fun nan they talk about at school to all of their friends
