At a guess I would say £500 upwards. Don't forget that even places where they do 'free' fitting will charge you for stairs. Anything from £10 to about £50 for a flight of stairs I seem to rememebr.

cece · 08/05/2006 22:45

OH and don't forget underlay and grippers...

Smurfgirl · 08/05/2006 22:47

We have been quoted about £350 including fitting and grippers, but thats using dirt cheap carpet.

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2006 22:48

£500!!!! Its only has a small hall and landing.. OMG!!

fortune

Including quite expensive carpet (£30 a sq yd?) ours was about a grand a few years ago but the hall is about 12' long and the landing about 21' altogether.

Get a bloke round for a quote, mieow!

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2006 22:51

I spoke to my sister earlier and she paid £800 for the hall, stairs and landing, her DD's bedroom and the kitchen floor... That was from a local market, I think I will go there (her hall and landing is bigger than my new house, and she has curvy stairs.)

I'm shocked I really am!! I thought that it would be about £200. Shock

hall is only 5x8 and landing is about the same.. I think I need a quote. I did well with the kids rooms, £340 for all 3 carpets including deliverly, underlay and fitting.

I did stairs and landing from a remenants shop for £250 inc fitting, underlay & delivery. Nice cream one. Shop in Nottingahm.

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2006 22:58

bit far for me to get carpet from, CP but thanks, I'll see what there is about here. I only want something hard wearing and fitted properably. Just want it to look nice. :)

We had to take up the expensive hall carpet and replace it with laminate because it got so skanky. If you are having any laminate downstairs you could extend it into the hall?

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2006 23:09

I am getting laminte for the living room, undecided on whether to get cheap click flooring or a real wood flooring that is £15 a pack (half price in homebase) ohhhhhhh decisions decisions.

OP posts:
JanH · 08/05/2006 23:14

Oh get the real wood! (And extend it into the hall Grin)

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2006 23:16

Misdee said that if I don;t get the real wood one, I will be hankering after it and only replace it anyway.. lol Grin its really nice :)

JanH · 08/05/2006 23:17

Exactly!

What colour is it?

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2006 23:20

beech, I will be happy with cheap stuff in my bedroom, but I want the living room to look lovely!! (the kids are banned.. evil Grin) hehe

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2006 23:21

I have beech units and want beech blinds.... I have a chocolate brown leather sofa.

JanH · 08/05/2006 23:24

That will look fabulous. Get it! (you have my permission, OK?)

Hattie05 · 08/05/2006 23:26

We spent £1500 on hall stairs and landing a few years ago!
We got a deal on it also via a friend who worked for the company.

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2006 23:27

Thanks god it only 16ftx12ft, have worked out it will cost me £230 without the underlay, for the real wood flooring. To extend it into the hall will cost another £30-45. DH has given me premission to get what I like :):) Wink

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2006 23:29

wow Hattie05, I don't want to spend that much, my kids would destroy it... lol :) I am going to adopt a 'no shoes' policy.. and they can only enter the house via the back gate and door.. hehe!!

OP posts:
Hattie05 · 08/05/2006 23:30

It was middle range quality, neither the cheap stuff or the most expensive.

SparklyGothKat · 08/05/2006 23:31

I think I have worked out the price right anyway, the real wood floor cost £15 a pack and covers 1 square metre. You should have seen me with a tape measure trying to work it out.. I had smoke coming out of my ears.. Grin

Presumably the hall opens off the living room? So you can run the flooring straight through the doorway without pratting about with threshold strips and things, it will look great, wide open spaces and all that!
