How much should I expect to pay monthly to rent a house?
Say for example a three bedroomed house with garden (not in london) - privately, council or housing association

For a reasonable sized house in West Berkshire £900 per month, rented privately

zephyrcat · 03/05/2006 20:51

Whereabouts are you? We pay 600 a month for a 3 bed terrace in southampton and thats quite cheap...I'm originally from Reading and would be llucky to get a one bed flat for 600 there!!

busybusybee · 03/05/2006 20:54

Thanks MrsD - That makes me feel a little better

For the town I am looking at three bed houses are £400+ a month. There are few available and those that are say no dss

Which basically makes me homeless

I dont know what I am going to do :(

We are in the process of buying the house we rent of my DP's parents but I know the previous occupant paid over £800 thats for a 3 bed with garden. We live in a beautiful village in oxfordshire.

we rent privately and pay £500 a month for a 2 bed flat in sussex

BUT, this is VERY cheap as our landlady is a family friend!
other flats in our block are around £650 a month at least

SparklyGothKat · 04/05/2006 21:05

private renting round here is high, 3 bed house is normally about £750-900 a month. I am one of the lucky ones who got a council flat without being pregnant... My parents house was overcrowded, so the council gave me a flat after a year on the list, I expected to wait about 10 years..
