I've tried running a 90 degree wash and cleaning out the soap dispenser but it still smells like something dies in it. help

are you using liquid detergent

cod · 02/05/2006 19:27

many a thread on this

SenoraPostrophe · 02/05/2006 19:27

did anyone actually prove or disprove the liquid detergent theory? I suspect it of being rollocks.

foxinsocks · 02/05/2006 19:28

no tis true

I had the most stinky washing machine ever

Changed to powder and (after a few washes) stink has gone

BadHair · 02/05/2006 19:28

Bicarb of soda on a 90 degree wash.

hewlettsdaughter · 02/05/2006 19:29

Filter could be blocked (if you have the booklet it should have instructions on how to clean it). Alternatively is there gunk in the seal of the door?

Riddo · 02/05/2006 19:30

I use powder - non bio and liquid fabric conditioner

Thanks badhair - I'll try the bicarb. Do you put it in the soap dispenser or straight in the machine?

OP posts:
cod · 02/05/2006 19:30

but bicarb does bubble so watch out

Riddo · 02/05/2006 19:30

The seal is a bit manky - not sure what to use to clean it.

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 02/05/2006 19:31

stop the fabric conditioner for a bit aswell to see if it makes a difference

LilacBump · 02/05/2006 19:31

a cup of white vinegar on an empty wash helps

Riddo · 02/05/2006 19:32

I'm worried that if I use anything abrasive on the seal then it will cease to seal iyswim. I'm not a newbie anymore - I used an acronym!

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 02/05/2006 19:33

I just wipe the seal with whatever I clean the kitchen with

Riddo · 02/05/2006 19:35

Thank you everyone - I shall try everything (but not all at once)

Could you try doing a 90 degree wash with nothing in there? Possibly just a little conditioner with a nice scent.

My washing machine stank at one point and refused to evcuate any water. According to the engineer, all my pipes were clogged with (sorry if TMI) human fat. Bleugh. Apparently, when we wash our clothes we are washing off all the shed skin cells and sweat. As most machines and detergents are geared to lower temperatures these days, few people do a boil or high temperature wash, which would dissolve the yuck and allow it to wash away. It might be this which is causing the stink.

Freckle · 02/05/2006 19:36

Sorry, didn't read the original post - just the thread title. I'd try a 90 degree wash several times.

Either that or check for dead rats Wink.

hewlettsdaughter · 02/05/2006 19:36

If the seal is like the one on our machine you should just be able to run a bit of kitchen paper round it (we get lots of grey goo in ours!)
