Driving to school this morning (have to drive, 2 disabled kids) pull in the street where the school is, and this little boy must have been about 20 months-2 years old, just ran straight in front of our car. Dh did an emergancy stop and the car stopped about 5 inches away from him. The mum was chatting to someone and only saw him when we stopped. I was shaking, DH was shaking, my kids wondered why they were suddenly thrown forward.... :(

Sad This happened to dh once - a boy of 5 just ran out in front of him on the road outside our house. Dh clipped him (not hurt or anything) and we went round to his mum's house and she said he was fine etc (no idea why he was playing out at that age) - dh was really shaken up

The thing was the mum just threw us a dirty look... I felt sick and so shaken.

I think she was in shock too, She was standing chatting on the road between two parked cars. Why she wasn't on the pavement I don't know why.

Don't worry about her dirty look SparklyGoth, some people are just graceless.

Just be proud of your DH's quick reflexes.

Horrible experience for you, but you must be so relieved your DH stopped on time.

And also tbf, maybe she was just in such shock that it just looked like a dirty look but she didn't mean it to be

SparklyGothKat · 28/04/2006 18:43

OMG yes I was glad he has fast reflexes, he hasn't be driving for ages because he had problems with his knees and has only just started driving again.

How awful.

And excuse me but what a stupid irresponsible woman. No reason not to be watching a 20 month old at all times when by a road.

I saw similar yesterday when waiting for ds to come out of school. A little boy aged about 4, just ran out infront of a car, which screeched to a stop just inches from him, it really upset me and I was shaking for a good while after. The driver of the car had to park up and get herself together again, she looked distraught. The mum came strolling along and got him, then carried on chatting, grrr.

We pulled up into the staff carpark (have a permit) and just sat there for a while

blimey SParkly.... your poor dh!!!! well done him for those quick reflexes though.

silly silly woman. Standing between parked cars, gossiping there and not having a firm grip on her tiny son. grr.

glad everyone was okay though.
