I finally got a letter today confirming that i will be paid job seekers allowance. Backpay has already been paid into my bank apparently.

Hooray Grin

But its taken over 6 weeks because initially they refused my claim, on the basis that i hadnt made enough NI contributions. (This despite working for the last 10.5 years with only two breaks for Mat leave).

How do people fiddle the system when someone with a work record and details as transparant as mine can be refused in the first instance?

vvv my baby was almost six months old before I got my maternity allowance--they "lost " the first claim made in april and all my payslips took them about 8 wks to re-check with all employers (had three agency work).
best bit was I got it in a lump sum which would otherwise would have been frittered away needless to say we had nice xmas beurocrats(sp?)
