kind of depends what you consider to be the best bits!

I for eg hate staying around Times Sq but love the Village/East Village

spacedonkey · 12/04/2006 12:20

I stayed in midtown last time - near Grand Central Station/Empire State Building. Not as characterful as downtown but it's a good location for getting about!

sickandtired · 12/04/2006 14:10

well, some one said stay in time sq, but then a mate told me that we would never sleep as it is so so busy - which is not my idea of fun when away from the kids - I want a lie in!
Another friend suggested lexington av?

Yes but Lexington runs from the east village to the upper east side!

What do you want to go and see? What are you into?

CountessDracula · 12/04/2006 14:56

Times Sq is a total dump

sickandtired · 12/04/2006 15:22

they said the W hotel - as for what am I into, sight seeing, (maybe) nice meals out, drinks, just the norm really

Book some nice restaurants or you will end up in tourist hell!

sickandtired · 12/04/2006 16:26

tbh I usually stay with friends

We did stay in a fabbo b&b in the E Village last time for a couple of nights, a massive suite for $180 per night but it is not posh! \link{http://secondhomesecondavenue.com/page/o1ey/Home_Page.html\it is the piccy on the home page} you get a massive bedroom, massive living room and a very errrr characterful bathroom (only shower)

I loved it. It was great to be able to have so much space and it was good location (Union SQ nearest subway or the L from 13th or 14th St just roudn the corner)

But then I like slightly scadgy neighbourhoods

There are 4 W hotels in NY, so be careful that you know which one you are booking if you do go for that. I have stayed in one and DH in 2 or 3, and we would both recommend them.
