Hi I know this is a personal question but I really need some evidence to show Dh. We have a DS and DD but I want another. Dh says we cant afford it. We have a income of £24k and live in the northwest. This income will go up in 3mths to £26k plus. I know kids are expensive but by the time they really want things I will be back at work. So is it feasible to have another? WE do have a mortgage and an IVA for our debts.

Nemo- have no idea, but bumping for you and eagerly awaiting opinions too! Wink

Every kid needs things but there's so much stuff you just don't need! You'll have everything you need already that you've used with your 2 kids. Best wishes xxx

nemo - at the start they aren't that expensive if you already have all the gear to use. With ds3 we haven't had to buy anything really - just some new nappies but my parents and PIL gave us money for them. It's only really the childcare cost that is big at this stage - but then all 3 of ours are under school age so it's our fault in a way!
Do you have a cot / pram / clothes / highchair etc that you can use? if so no big outlay at first.

We live on £17k a year, have mortgage 2 kids (8 tr old very expensive) 2 cars holiday abroad every other year, and to be honest if I agreed to having another money would not be an issue.

It really depends on what your individual outgoings are and also what standard of living you are used to IMHO. We have 3 children and our income is a lot lower than yours. We also live further south, where I imagine things are generally more expensive. OTOH we don't have a car or go on holiday but tbh we didn't have those when we had just one child so not much has changed.

As others have said, you will probably already have the basic stuff from your other children. Even if you don't you won't need to spend a fortune. Good luck.

Children cost as much as you spend on them - you can dress them in jumble sale clothes or go for baby Dior. It is impossible to say how much each family might spend on three children.

On the other hand - think car, bedrooms, dentists, outings, school trips and bump it all up by a third.

Don't think this helps at all, actually [grin}

thanks all for the opinions. I think we could manage to budget for another child as I still have everything [mainly because DD is only 3mths]even down to cloth nappies so no costs there either. Dh says we would have to move house but I dont see why as either of my children could share a bedroom with a third or even put Ds and dd in together while baby is little. Just need to convince dh really..lol We dont have building debts due to just going through an iva which means our debts are under a repayment scheme and they actually cant get any bigger or smaller for the next 5yrs all our outgoings in bills are set.
