I fancy having a go but might be too scared!

I LOVE clay pigeon shooting. It is really, really good fun. I've only done it a couple of times but I managed to hit about 50% of the clays so it was very satisfying. It's not scary at all once you get over that you are handling a big gunGrin

Carmenere · 09/04/2006 15:03

Where are you going to do it?

zippitippitoes · 09/04/2006 15:05

I've no idea..I know zilch about it, but I thought it might be something that dp and I could do for my birthday

Well I think that is a great idea for a birthday day out. How about milking it and going to a posh hotel that organises it for you? Grin

zippitippitoes · 09/04/2006 15:09

probably too posh for us...I think we need somewhere earthy! Grin but incorporating it in a weekedn away would be nice

I've done it a couple of times, its great fun. The first time I did it with my DH, uncle and my Dad and we had a FAB time - its actually one of my happiest memories with Dad who died in 2002. Used DH's 12 bore shotgun (ouch)!

Then, I had a lesson last year with a chap from a club, it was great, cost £30 which included use of guns, all the clays etc and an hours lesson one-to-one. He brought a few different guns to see what would suit me best.

Go for it, and let us know how you get on! :)

Yes used to do it a lot. The police used to have a regular clay shoot every other sunday. very earthy, all farmers and police not nobby at all.

CountessDracula · 09/04/2006 17:30

ah but you will ahve to go to a club or something as presume you don't have a firearms licence.

zippitippitoes · 09/04/2006 17:36

oh no i want to just go to a regular beginners try out, probably just a one off out of curiosity...dp however thinks I have now gone barking!

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 09/04/2006 17:37

why? It is fun!

zippitippitoes · 09/04/2006 17:39

fun good..dp thinks it/I might be dangerous

jampots · 09/04/2006 17:46

dh used to do it regularly but hasnt done it in years now. In fact we just had his shotgun disposed of as his licence came up for renewal and wastnt worth paying the fee. He used to thoroughly enjoy it

zippitippitoes · 09/04/2006 18:20

We did it from work at Christmas. It was brilliant fun - although I think I only hit about 1 out of every 10!
