Anyone been to Haigh Hall/Park?

Am desperately trying to think of somewhere to go tomorrow as the forecast is sunny(ish). So has anyone been to Haigh Hall or Park and is it any good? Dd's are 5 and 8. Other place I saw advertised was Croxteth Country Hall and Gardens (?) - does anyone know if that's any good either? I am open to any other suggestions around about as well? Thanks in advance.

Croxteth Park is OK, but you have to pay to get into the hall and farm. It has got a playground though. I reckon that Walton Hall Park near Warrington is better than Croxteth Park - the playground is great, and the little farm section is free. Heaton Park in North Manchester has a very good free farm, and a hall, playground is a bit grotty though.

Haigh hall is quite good. There are good gardens ..a little road train...a miniture village...a playground...and good walks.
Heaton hall has the edge i reckon...it has a tram ride/ museum...a farm...good walks and masses of space...a lake and a choice of cafes

Moss Bank park in Bolton is very good. It has a small zoo and several large play area including an enormous sandpark with a boat in the middle. It's free to get in and fairly easy to get to.

Pennington Flash is also pretty good. Plenty of ducks to feed and nature walks. There's also nice picnic areas and play area's for the children.

Where abouts are you from?

I'm between Chester and Liverpool. Walton Gardens a regular haunt so wouldn't class as a 'day out' really!! Isn't North Manchester a pain to get to or is that just at peak times? What/where is Pennington Flash?

What about you?

Oh lots of suggestions, thanks. I've never driven to Bolton before though, will have to go and look at the map! I like the sound of 'free to get in' of course. Everything seems to cost a fortune, I'm usually broke by the end of the holidays.
