How can I make a pair of brown suede shoes black?

I have had them years, and have only worn them twice, because there are'nt many colours you can wear with brown, I still really like them but want to make them black, they are mules BTW Smile

I think if you get one of those stiff metal brushes and scrub at the suede to smooth it down a bit, then you can just polish them with black polish. (But I am not what you'd call a style icon Grin)

I was thinking of using black shoe polish too, might need a few covers, just dont want them to end up looking naff.
