My dd has got a very long fridge always in her eyesand I think it must irritate her. I am useless with hair anyway and can't even put my own hair in a ponytail without it being lumpy but I tried cutting dds hair but obviously too scared to do it when she was awake in case she oved and I cut her. So I did it in her sleep and it looks awful. I cut my own fringe and always make a mess of it but I brush mine to the side so its not noticeable but because of this I knew I would amke a mess of cutting DDS hair and her being asleep made it even harder cos her hair flopped everywhere.

What age was your child when they first went to the hairdrersser?

dd is 4 and has only just had her first haircut (proffesional or otherwise), but my childrens' hair is non existent for their first year and grows extrememly slowly.

just pop into a hairdressers. You don't say how old she is but if she is very small they will cut her fringe whist dhe is on your lap.

About 18 months. All the hairdressers I have taken my children to have been very good with them, for a quick fringe trim I would recommend going to a barbers, ours just trimmed DDs fringe while she was still sitting in the buggy!

All 3 of mine were under a year, hair seems to be an area they excel at Grin We have a kids haidresser near here that I take them to.

about 18 months here too - we use a mobile haridresser and she is brilliant. So much easier in your own home and less stressful!!

Gosh we did our 9 month dd's fringe for the first time this weekend. It wouldn't have occurred to me to take her to a hairdresser.
Not very straight but, as we told her, by the time she's old enough for it to matter we'll have learnt to do it better Grin

Just so dh can gloat about the pennies we've saved, do you mind me asking how much it costs?

dd - professional haircut - 15 months

ds - ditto - about 9 months

And they both still hate it! with dd they 'do' her nails as a reward!

I cut ds's hair myself, but did take him to a hairdresser for the 1st at about 9 months (it too was in his eyes). Since she regularly cuts and dyes my mil's hair (probably at huge cost) she did it for free. Took less than 5 mins. I just watched what she did and copied her next time. Takes me about a week to cut ds's hair each time - do a tiny bit at a time and just keep going back for more snipping. Some kind of treat usually helps get him to sit still for prolonged snipping - maltesers, biscuit, fruit flakes, favourite TV programme, DVD ...

Ds was 10 months when I took him to the hairdresser. He loved his first haircut as my hairdresser (who is brilliant) had some bob the builder toys for him to play with!
He sat on my lap infront of the mirror and smiled at himself too!

His second haircut at 12 months wasnt as good, as he is scared of hair driers. He hates it when I use mine.

Have got to book him in for his 3rd one now at 15 months, his hair grows so fast. He has a little mullet now!

Katemum · 04/04/2006 20:04

If the fringe just needs a trim I have found most hairdressers will do it for free. Only takes them a couple of seconds.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 04/04/2006 20:05

only cost £3 for ds.
