dumb question - but how do you get dishwasher residue off glasses?

I know, probably all I need to do is wash them with a bit of Fairy and some elbow grease. BUT, just in case that doesn't work (never being one for the unecessary wastage of elbow grease), is there anything you can recommend? My glasses are looking more like cups.

I don't think you can do anything once you have that awful opaque ring - best is to use glss-friendly rinse-aid to avoid it in the first place, but I know that that advice is a bit "a day late and dollar short", as they say.
