back pack baby carrier for a shorty!

Does anyone have any recommnedations for a back pack baby carrier which I can use being only 5'2" tall. I tried on one at a car boot sale once and with the lumbar support on my hips the shoulder straps were way too high to ever be comfotable! Also my husband is six foot and i'm sure he'd want to use it too, so a really good adjustable one would be best, i think. I've looked at mumsnets product guide but don't know which would suit us best.

anyone got any recommendations or suggestions for me? ta

I had a Kelty, and it was great. All different kinds of straps for adjusting, and well padded for comfort.

I'm 5'2" and dh is 5'6". We have a Little Life one - can't remember the model - maybe the Voyager. Anyway, it fits me fine and dh fine- we have lent it to my brother who is 6' and got no complaints.

I am 5-3 and dp is 6-2. We have a mac pac and it is superb for both of us. It also comes in 3 sizes; we ahve the middle size.

It is well worth takig a faily trip to somewhere like snow and rock and tryin them all one with a professional to assess fit etc.

do i assume that the best place to look for these would be a walking shop somewhere? was planning a trip to mothercare but a walking shop makes more sense.

I got mine at a camping store.

We love (loved? DS2 is almost 3) our Bush Baby backpack. It’s adjustable tho I don’t know if it would go small enough for you - I’m 5ft 6.
Best bet is to try some out - we got ours from an excellent baby store we use but a walking shop wd be good too.
Don’t go to mothercare - the staff there always seem to know nothing!

I am 5'2", and used a Bush Baby - it is completely adjustable and very comfy.
Just don't do what I did though and sit on a grassy river bank with baby on board, then try and get up again! (Like an upturned turtle I was)

Mac pac worked for us (me titchy, him ginormous). Definitely need to try it out - I tried a Kelty, on a short-arsed friend's recommendation, but it was too wide across the shoulders for me, though the length was right.

How about \link{http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3409402.htm\this one?} not sure how big it is, but it's an absolute bargain!

You could always go to look at it and try it before you buy!

oooh the one in argos looks good, i feel a trip coming on today. Does anyone know where i can buy bush baby ones or mac pac? Local to reading preferably. ta

definitely the bush baby worked for us as well - I am just over 5 feet, and DH is about 5ft 8.

Cost a lot but very comfortable if you are going to do a lot of walking.

You can get them second hand on ebay.

eleanorsmum · 04/04/2006 09:10

need to try one out before i buy from e-bay, where can i go to try them in reading anyone?

Get the Baby Trekker. I'm 5'2" and have a very good frame backpack as well, and I'd go for the Baby Trekker any day. Cheaper too.

I'm 5' 2" and have just bought a Tomy Snugli Dreamrider from ebay. \link{http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tomy-Dream-Rider-Backpack-Back-Pack-Baby-Carrier_W0QQitemZ7756086556QQcategoryZ100984QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem\here}

I'm getting on ok with it so far but ds is only 14lbs. DH who is 6 feet tall uses it too and it's fully adjustable.

eleanorsmum · 05/04/2006 07:24

well went and bought the argos one to try out, have to put dd in it to see today but there's no instructions! Is this usual, have fiddled with the straps but will get dh to help tonight!
