Ebay accident - how to transfer money to German Bank account ?!

In a recent postnatal moment I had a slight accident on the German ebay site. My "O" level German let me down and I appear to have bought something called a Wingbo-it's some kind of baby swing . I now need to transfer some money into the seller's German bank account. He's been very helpful so far and sorted out the shipping, but I don't want to look even more stupid than I look already by admitting I have no idea how to arrange this ! DH usually knows about these sorts of things. Unfortunetly he's no use as he can't have a conversation about the Wingbo without rolling around the floor helpless with laughter, his only intelligible phrase being " Thank God it wasn't a Porsche"

Does anyone know how I arrange a transfer ? And if anyone has ever seen one of these Wingo things I'd love to know if they are actually any good !!

LOL adell but sorry no idea how to help. All I remember is Ich nahe...

Do you have online banking? If so, they should list all the info necessary to do it. Don't worry about asking him for his personal banking details; it's how it's done over here. (At least in Switzerland!)

Good luck with the Wingbo. Sounds like your baby will take flight....

Your bank will be able to arrange it for you. You will need to know the bank's name and address, the sort code and the account code - according to DH.

oops - just started a reply and then lost the whole page.

If you open a Paypal account (encrypted and secure) you can send the money, safely, from a credit card - go to
Paypal and register your personal details and credit card details - I think that's the easiest way. If you do a cash transfer to his account you'll be charged commission and transaction charges I think.

adell · 02/01/2004 21:57

Thank you very much. I'll get his account details and speak to the bank tomorrow. Then wait in eager anticipation at the arrival of the Wingbo - bet it takes up a lot of space. That will teach me to be very, very careful on websites in future !!

Hardly any German sellers are willing to take Paypal though, that's why it's such a problem. They almost invariably need direct money transfers.

Hulababy · 02/01/2004 21:58

Yes, forgot to add - you do have to pay to do the transcation. I think it is a standard charge regardless of how much or little you send.

adell · 02/01/2004 21:58

Thanks JanH, that sounds easy, I'll give that a shot.

There's a picture of a baby in a Wingbo here - down the page on the right. Seems to be a face-down job!

adell · 02/01/2004 22:05

I've found the manufacturer's website and read all the blurb. Seem to be lots for sale in Germany, with mixed reviews from what I can make out. Goodness knows what DS is going to make of it ! Sounds like I'd better speak to the bank rather than try Paypal and get it over and done with ! Thanks for everyone's help.

Sorry, adell, didn't know about Germans' aversion to Paypal

JJ · 02/01/2004 22:09

Adell, do you have the page of the Wingbo you bid on? It should tell you how you can pay. If you'd like, you can either email it to me or post it here.

JanH · 02/01/2004 22:14

Another Wingbo picture - same baby, a bit older.

(I am having a lovely time looking through their family album watching the baby growing up!)

adell · 02/01/2004 22:15

Thanks JJ, that's really kind of you. He said in his email to send the money to his account and I've just found another one from him with the shipping costs and his bank details, so I'll ring the bank tomorrow and set up a transfer. All I can say is I hope this thing is worth it !

I like that second photo JanH. I can see DD having some fun pushing DS on that, close supervision at all times I think !
