I have a recipe for dairy-free oatmeal cookies somewhere. Should I dig?

philippat · 29/03/2006 13:36

have you got oil?
\link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/whiskyflapjacks_78777.shtml\here's one}

starlover · 29/03/2006 13:37

philippat · 29/03/2006 13:37

sounds a bit yukky but without the whisky might be ok...

starlover · 29/03/2006 13:38

I have used veg oil in flapjacks before. it seems to work fine. add a spoonful of marmalade for yummyness.

starlover · 29/03/2006 13:41

do you just use the same weight in oil as you would butter?

\link{http://cookie.allrecipes.com/az/tmlRisinCkisIX.asp\Here}'s the recipe I use. You can use the ingredients search on that site to find a lot of similar options.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/03/2006 13:42

I'd be nervous just substituting oil for butter, as oil is liquid at room temperature, and butter isn't.

You can substitute shortening for butter much easier.

\link{http://cookie.allrecipes.com/az/81298.asp\Here}'s something like a flapjack with oil, not butter. That site includes reviews and ratings of recipes, so you can see what other users thought of each one ...

what's canola oil? i only have sunflower oil (or olive oil which i think would be yuck)

OP posts:
starlover · 29/03/2006 13:47

oh that looks nice too, great site as well.
don't have any wheat germ though

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 29/03/2006 13:47

Canola oil is rapeseed (renamed, helpfully, by Canadians, as the word "rape" is icky). Sunflower will be fine.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/03/2006 13:48

I'm a big fan of allrecipes, lots of quite good stuff there. Also, lots of scary stuff, but it's pretty easy to spot. (e.g. butter-flavoured shortening?!?)

starlover · 29/03/2006 13:50

ah ha, well i think i will give them a go!
have bookmarked the site too

will let you know how they turn out! lol

did you see the thread on here where someone was making marsy's lemon drizzle and had to substitute all manner of things? she used oil i think and said it came out ok! lol

OP posts:
starlover · 29/03/2006 13:51

ooooooh and you can change it to metric rather than US measurements! that's jolly clever
