I'm having 13 people for dinner in a few weeks and it has made me realise what a total hodge-podge we have of plates, tumblers, wine glasses, cups etc. What's the largest number of a single item in your house? we do have 12 matching plates which seems very impressive to me.

We did have 6 of everything, but I had the bright idea to buy it all in chocolate brown which chips terribly to reveal white bits so it all looks really scruffy now. Also think we're down to 3 bowls as everything breaks when we drop it on our kitchen floor.

NO. Homebase have some lovely gold or silver chargers taht are quite cheap but look exactly liek teh expnsive ones in JL. Far nicer than placemats

Chargers are the fancy plates you put under the plate you are eating from.

If I have chargers as well as plates a) there will not be enough room in my cupboard. b) there will not be enough room in my dishwasher c) my friends will think they're in a restaurant d) dh will think I've gone mad

Oh yes, DH thinks Ive lost it with the chargers. I think his precise words were 'What the fuck are they for?'

Sweetie, buy some plates. Possibly buy some bowls too, if you feel like it. Get 15, why not, what the hell, you'll break something soon enough.

And then step away.

motherinferior · 24/03/2006 22:24

Or actually I'd go to Chinatown and get lots of Chinese ones, me.
