This morning when I tried to sign on to my pc I couldn't get on and a message came up every time Norton Security saying it had just blocked access to something which had tried to enter my computer.

I fiddled about with cables and restarted the computer but the same thing happened over and over again.

Then I noticed an option to turn off Norton for five minutes so I did this and was able to sign on.

So, my questions are ...

a) Have I just done something really stupid?
b) How should I have gone about this?
c) what should I do now?

Most grateful.

Do a virus scan to see if you've 'caught' anything?

ohhhh, spidey, I had it too - on the PC - DH says he's going to take it into work and clean it up. (I am on bluddy slow dial-up laptop now)

Message said it was a high risk worm. Same as you I tried over and over, unplugging things and reconnecting and rebooting and it just wouldn't let me in. I am a total technonumpty so I have no idea whether turning Norton off will have let it in or just stopped Norton being over-protective - have you noticed any diff in your PC?

My home PC got this and I just had it sorted out by my computer guy. Totally locked up my machine. I don't know what advice to give you as I called a professional. It couldn't hurt to run the anti-virus software though.
