How do I clean sick (and the smell!) out of a rug?

It's a handmade wook rug from Pakistan. It came a long way for ds1 to puke spectacularly over it 3.30 this morning.

We scrubbed it twice with disinfectant, but the smell is extending around the house! What shall I use, all you household gurus?

That would be wool!

could you steam clean it?

If not (or maybe even try first ) sprinkle LOADS of bicarb of soda all over it... leave for several hours and hoover
